Pepper Foundation Grants
The Claude Pepper Foundation, a not-for-profit corporation, makes grants primarily to support the work of the Claude Pepper Center and the Pepper Institute on Aging and Public Policy, both located at Florida State University, Tallahassee, Florida. The Foundation makes limited grants to other organizations.
Recent Foundation Grants
The Claude Pepper Foundation awards grants for productive projects to improve education, to assist the underprivileged, to foster research into the physiological and psychological aspects of aging, and to continue the work and vision of Claude and Mildred Pepper. Below are a sample of Foundation grants and projects used to perpetuate the legacy of Senator and Mrs. Pepper. Tallahassee Senior Center - To co-sponsor the Claude Pepper Senior Walk/Run, which consists of a competition for walkers over the age of 60, and one for runners, with prizes and refreshments.
ECHO Outreach Ministries - To purchase large freezers for storing meats ECHO receives free from the USDA for distribution to very low-income families. ECHO receives and distributes thousands of pounds of groceries every month, including frozen meats that must be properly refrigerated. ECHO is a private non-profit agency that works in partnership with civic associations, religious congregations, businesses and foundations in the Tallahassee area to provide emergency services.
The National Council on Aging - To fund presentation of the National Institute on Community-based Long-Term Care Claude Pepper Award. This award recognizes individuals in the field who have shown true leadership and made special and significant contributions in the development of a continuum of services that enable older people to live at home with dignity, independence and autonomy for as long as they are able.
Aging with Dignity - To help develop a system of health and long term care to maintain the human dignity of the elderly and prepare for the challenges younger Floridians will face as they age. Visit the organization's web site at www.agingwithdignity.org

1995 White House Conference on Aging - To prepare a video to be shown at the Conference.

Joint Projects of the Pepper Foundation, Elder Care Services - To conduct workshops on grandparents raising grandchildren to provide resources and information to individuals responsible for rearing their grand or great-grandchildren. Visit the organization's web site at ecsbigbend.com
Joint Projects of the Pepper Foundation and the Florida Council on Aging - To broadcast television commercials on Medicare and Meals on Wheels to educate the public on proposed funding cuts.
Tallahassee Senior Center - To support the Senior Center's Saturday Retreat Respite Program. This program provides periodic relief to persons who give round the clock care to a family member with Alzheimer's Disease or other dementia. 2030 Center - To support the 2030 Center's Young Workers Retirement Health Project. This project will produce educational materials about the retirement health of young workers, including a "policy manual" about how new Social Security reform proposals affect young adults. Bowman Gray School of Medicine - To sponsor a project in Preventative Gerontology which focuses upon research, education, medical and public health to delay age-correlated declines in physiological efficiency.
National Institute on Community-Based Long Term Care - To present the Claude Pepper Award for Excellence in Community-Based Long Term Care to professionals in the aging field who have demonstrated ongoing commitment to the development of a continuum of service to enable older people to live at home with dignity, independence and autonomy.
